Maryville is located in northwest Missouri and is the home of Northwest Missouri State University. About 20 miles south of the Iowa border, Maryville enjoys an economy anchored by the university and large employers such as Kawasaki, Energizer and St. Francis Hospital. The city of about 11,000 people swells by another 6,000 during the university school year. Downtown Maryville boasts the newly restored Nodaway County Courthouse, streetscape improvements on the courthouse square, a modern Nodaway County Administrative Building and several restaurants.

Maryville was designated a DREAM community in 2007 and has been working to establish improvements in its organizational structure, student housing and building fa├žades. Recent improvements include:

  • Streetscape expansion
  • Establishing a downtown ambassador-type committee to help knit university students more closely with downtown businesses
