Monett

Monett, located in southwest Missouri at the county line of Barry and Lawrence Counties, is a regional employment center and the largest city among both counties.

Originally a settlement called Plymouth, Plymouth Junction or Plymouth Crossing, the area was a part of the Cherokee Indian’s “Trail of Tears”. Monett was founded in 1887 as a Frisco Railroad town. As an active Frisco terminal, the city became a hub for industry, commerce and agriculture. Today’s city street names reflect its railroad heritage.

Once known as the “Strawberry Capital of the Midwest”, the city of Monett is now a working business partner with its local industry, many of which serve a national and international scope.

Monett was selected as a DREAM community in fall of 2010. The City, Chamber and Main Street Monett are leading the DREAM Initiative through the process of creating a wayfinding plan, building design guidelines and other beautification and financial planning activities.
