Theatre, Auditorium, & Other Large Spaces Seminar

Theatre, Auditorium, and Other Large Spaces Training Seminar

A constant theme of many downtowns is the availability of large buildings in vital need to be brought back to productive use. The Theatre, Auditorium, and Other Large Spaces Training Seminar addressed effective practices for the renovation, adaptive reuse, and operation of these spaces to the benefit of the downtown revitalization process. Topics of these seminars included:

  • Preservation and Rehabilitation of Existing Spaces – review of several case studies to illustrate success (and failures) of the preservation and rehab of theatres, as well as innovative examples of adaptive reuses of large spaces
  • New Construction of Theatre Spaces – presentation of the construction process for a new downtown theatre complex, including site selection, financing, municipal requirements, design criteria, and other issues
  • Operating issues for Movie and Stage Theatres – examples of case studies for both movie and stage theatre operations and other issues, as well as general statistics on the theatre industry to quantify its impact on downtowns and the revitalization program

The Theatre, Auditorium, and Other Large Spaces Training Seminar was held in April 2010. More DREAM Seminars are planned for the future. Please check back for dates.
